The Baltic Woodwind Quintet
was founded by Karol Respondek and his
Gdańsk friend musicians in 1990. During its earliest years of activity,
the ensemble reached an important position in cultural life of Gdańsk,
arousing interest of music critics, media and especially - the public.
The ensemble participated in such chamber music competitions as in
Illzach and Tours, France, and took part in periodical music events like
Music at the Łazienki Park, Warsaw, Per Cameram Ad Ecclesiam, The Days
of Young Composers of Gdańsk, The Dominican Concerts, as well as in
chamber and organ music festivals in Warsaw, Kamień Pomorski, Kołobrzeg
and Słupsk. The Baltic Woodwind Quintet gave concerts at such estimable places as Pałac Wilanowski in Warsaw, Pałac Działyńskich in Poznan, Zamek Działyńskich in Kórnik, Zamek in Krokowa, Schloss Elmau, Bavaria, Marienlyst, Dennmark and Polish Consulate in Strassebourg, France. The ensemble performs regularly on stage of the Polish Baltic Philharmony in Gdańsk and takes part in a summer concert series “Music in the Monuments of Gdańsk”. The repertoire of the Baltic Woodwind Quintet consists of pieces composed genuinely for a wind quintet (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and basoon), although its major part comprises arrangements of polish and world music literature made by Karol Respondek. Among them one can find Seasons by Tschaikovsky, Kinderszenen by Schumann, Petite Suite and L'apres-midi d'un Faun by Debussy, The Firedance by de Falla, Ravel's Pavane or the Peer Gynt suite by Grieg.
